✨SHOWCASE✨ Vintage Polly Pocket Partytime Surprise (1989) & 30th Anniversary Keepsake Collection
The Polly Pocket Partytime Surprise 30th anniversary edition was the first Polly I bought before I even started my collection. I bought it just last year and it’s currently available on Amazon.
When it arrived, the nostalgia hit me the way Skip-Its used to hit my ankles. But not all of it was rainbows and unicorns.
Unfortunately, I was very much disappointed with the quality. The glitter was falling off, the paint job on Polly was mediocre, and the hinge doesn’t hold it upright.
Despite this, I learned my love of restoring Pollies. I discovered new skills on toy restoration I never even knew I had.
I reinforced the glitter with Mod Podge, painted Polly a new face, and used my logo restoration method for very first time on this compact.
It also solidified my decision on starting my Polly Pocket collection journey. Much to my surprise, I realized that this was a reboot of the original 1989 version.
I know, I know. How could I not have realized that? Am I even a true Polly Pocket fan? In my defense, I’m a bit dense. Hey, that rhymed!
Anyway, all that matters now is I got my hands on the 1989 version and compared it with the 2018 one. Shockingly, I prefer the latter simply because I love the pink and purple color scheme.
However, the vintage one has a better quality with the hinge, paint job, and plastic material. Polly also looks to be of a higher quality compared to the reboot version.
My final verdict is they’re both super cute and it’s just all about personal preference. Pink and purple are my favorite colors so I naturally gravitate towards that aesthetic. But vintage is vintage and there’s nothing like the original.
For those of you who are nostalgic but don’t want to commit to buying a vintage Polly Pocket on eBay, get the 30th Anniversary Partytime Surprise on Amazon. It’s pretty close to the original and will satisfy your nostalgic needs.
